Gentle Reminder: Something about Feelings

This is the blog post where I wrap up the theme for the month – in this case hope and hopelessness – and link to an older post from the archives.

There’s just one problem.

It’s the first day of my holiday and I’m currently sitting in the kitchen of a very nice little cottage in the Cotswolds. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. The weather is perfect. The only sounds I can hear are the gentle hum of the fridge, birds chirping in the courtyard outside and the tap-tap-tap of my fingers hitting the keyboard.

Why is this a problem? Well, I’ve come down with a severe case of lazyitis (must be the change of water, I think) and I’m struggling to write the post I was planning to write which, I recall, was something about feelings.

So, in the interests of acknowledging my own feelings – specifically, the feeling that I would very much like to sit outside and have a cup of tea, then take a nap before heading out to the pub for a drink – I’m not going to force myself to write when I just want to get on with my holiday.

I’m sure you understand.

While we all have obligations in our lives, it’s also important to pay attention to our needs. For people with overeating issues, it’s essential. Otherwise, we feel frustrated and resentful and turn to food to detach from the pain of not getting what we want.

We all deserve to balance our own needs alongside our responsibilities.

It’s OK to listen to our feelings and give ourselves what we truly want (and right now I truly want that cup of tea).

    1. Thank you for making me smile, Huguette – it’s tempting to get lost! I have to confess that not only do I have my phone with me, I also brought my Chromebook so I could write my post. But that’s it now – I’ve had a cup of tea and a nap, so now I’m off for a walk and a drink at the pub. Hope you have a great week.

      1. I’m looking forward to returning home and this “vacation” has dragged on long enough. I’ve got the writing itch but the inability to spend time writing.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover, acquire new friends and gain knowledge of yourself and the world.” Samual Clemens aka Mark Twain

  3. I don’t know if you have come across novels by Miss Read which are set in the Cotswolds.
If the reality is anything like the novels you are in a beautiful place.
    Enjoy yourself.
Have tea with Rich Tea biscuits like Miss Read.

    1. I’m not familiar with Miss Read so I’m grateful for the tip! The countryside and the architecture are absolutely beautiful in this part of the world . Many thanks for your comment, great to hear from you.

  4. Amen to that, we really do need that time to step back, take a breather & look at what’s going on for us. Sometimes we can get carried away with the tide and it’s hard to do that, or maybe even there are other reasons for not reflecting on what we’re feeling and whether our needs are being met (feelings we’re not worth it, not wanting to confront those feelings, etc). The Cotswolds are beautiful; I’m not sure which part exactly you’re in (I live in Gloucestershire) but I hope you can clear your mind a little, breathe, and have a wonderful holiday  ♥

      1. That sounds lovely! I’ve been to Moreton only twice I think, which was a couple of years ago for something work-related. I really should go back for a day trip as there are so many places around in Gloucestershire that I’ve never been, like Bibury. Have a lovely time – hopefully the weather is a bit better today & will stay dry! xx
