“What you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon must inevitably come to pass” – Paul J. Meyer
It’s the adverbs that make this sentence so meaningful.
He could have said “what you imagine, desire, believe and act upon” but that doesn’t have the same power. Instead, Meyer colours in the specifics – we must vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon.
It’s not enough to hope for the best, plod along, see what happens – we have to want it, believe it and make it happen.
And what’s the reward for our efforts?
Not simply that whatever we’re working towards will come to pass – it must inevitably come to pass.
Everyone feels hopeless at times when attempting to manifest their desires, such as overcoming an eating disorder.
Everyone.
Including me.
When I wanted to throw in the towel during my recovery, this quote reminded me of my responsibility: to believe in my process and to actively engage in it. It says that if I play my part, the rest is taken care of – the result is already a done deal.
I find that thought both empowering and comforting.
Our job is not to give in to that hopeless side that says “all is lost” but to remember our role in making our desires a reality. It’s not enough to wish or hope – we have to act. There will always be negative thoughts that attempt to pull us off course, but it’s up to us to get ourselves back on track and keep going.
If we can do that, anything is possible.

What an inspiring post, Julie! It’s so easy to let the negative thoughts gain the upper hand and then all desire to act fades away. It’s all about the action, isn’t it, thinking is not enough, we have to act while the thought is still there. Just keep on keeping on, Lxx

Absolutely – we need to keep on truckin’. What we act on in this way must inevitably come to pass. Many thanks for your thoughts, Lol.

This really does make things feel easier because we just have to act, to be present and keep going. If we can “remember our role in making our desires a reality”, as you say, there’s comfort in knowing that the process will continue and that things will be okay. Such an encouraging, thought-provoking post. Thank you for sharing 🙂

It doesn’t feel like such hard work if we trust that, inevitably, we will be successful. I’m glad you like the post, Caz. How are you doing?

It’s definitely a reassuring way to view things and it takes a lot of pressure and worry off our shoulders to have that trust.
I’m doing a little better thank you. I’m just super glad to be home!
How are you doing? I hope this is a good week for you, Julie, whatever you’re up to 🙂

Great post Julie, it reminds me of a credo that was doing the rounds in the 80’s, I Can, I Will, I Am – principally the same as above – if you think it, you can do it.

Just what I needed to hear as well, Julie. I’m going to make a copy of the quote and place it on the fridge, so I can see it often!
